Rwanda Initiative:
Established by Carleton’s Allan Thompson, professor of journalism, the Rwanda Initiative is a partnership between Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication and its counterpart at the National University of Rwanda.

Since 2006, the project has sent more than 150 Canadians to Rwanda to teach, work as interns or contribute to the development of journalism curricula and the application of education technology.

The Rwanda Initiative is now part of the broader efforts of the Carleton University-based Centre for Media and Transitional Societies.

For more information about the initiative, please visit: www.RwandaInitiative.ca.

The Centre for Media and Transitional Societies aims to generate cutting-edge knowledge about the role of media in transitional societies and forge networks that will support hands-on application of this knowledge.

In addition to the Rwanda Initiative, the Centre’s other key project is Radio, Convergence and Development in Africa. The three-year research project focuses on how new forms of communication, such as the Internet and mobile phones, influence the role of radio in Africa.

The Centre is exploring the application of its journalism education and training model in other venues.
